Do this at home, in this order
- Take a key from the Akimbo bot and install a client on the phone and the laptop. We suggest Hiddify or v2rayNG, and Streisand on iPhone.
- Check that Telegram opens on your phone before you leave, because the key and any new one come through the bot.
- Connect once at home and check that the IP check shows a new country.
- Keep a second client installed. If one stops working, the same key goes into another.

What the rules say, and what we do not know
China requires VPN providers to hold a government licence. In 2017 Apple said it had removed VPN apps from its China App Store that did not meet those rules. That is why the iPhone route needs preparation: an app you intend to use should be on the phone before you land. Beyond that, we do not publish a legal reading of the rules for travellers. They change, and you are responsible for the law of the place you are in and for the terms of the services you use.
Which country to choose
Singapore and Japan are nearest to China from our list, and the distance matters because more distance adds delay. We do not publish speed figures for connections there. Expect to need a tunnel for many Western apps and sites there.
