Why apps stop working
Since 2020 the government has blocked hundreds of apps, and others have left the Indian Play Store and App Store by themselves. On top of that, operators sometimes slow certain services down. A VPN for apps deals with all three in the same way. Your traffic goes through a server in another country, so the app sees a visitor from Singapore or the UAE, and your operator sees one encrypted connection.
What changes from app to app is which country works best, and whether the app also checks things a VPN cannot change, such as your SIM or your store account.

What an app looks at
Most apps check your IP address and nothing else. Some also look at the country of your SIM card, the region of your Play Store or Apple account and the language of the phone. A key changes the first of these. For apps that check the rest, the guide for that app explains what else needs doing. We prefer to tell you that at the start and not after you have paid.

Using a VPN is legal in India. Some apps are blocked by government order, and using them is your own decision and your own responsibility.
Which country is best for most apps?
Singapore. It is close, so it is quick, and few apps restrict it.
